The Past Imperfect
Synopsis

A reserved woman, Alice, is leading a routine existence as a luxury escort and carefully avoids any deeper social contact. When her ex-boyfriend dies in a car accident, the high walls she has built around her are abruptly torn down. Alice is unexpectedly confronted with her six-year-old son Robin, whom she had abandoned years earlier. His sudden presence threatens her carefully guarded autonomy, exposing strongly suppressed emotions.

THE PAST IMPERFECT is about the deep human struggle between the fear of real intimacy and the universal longing for security. In this film, the great conflict unfolds in precisely the relationship where unconditional intimacy would seem to be self-evident: that between a mother and her child. What if you are emotionally incapable of conforming to the socially accepted norm? What does the tie of blood mean in the absence of a shared past? Can love win over fear? A deeply human portrait of two lost souls, of the destabilizing but also tender battle to find each other and oneself.
